In any position, we rely heavily on strong communication skills and interactive tools like Basecamp, Campfire, Skype and email. Full time candidates must have a comfort level with working successfully in a virtual environment.
This is a position for a mid-level technical writer/tester who is experienced in the following:
* Soliciting and documenting highly technical procedural information.
* Information taxonomy and document management.
* ITIL Concepts of Knowledge Management and Service Management.
* Creation of Knowledge Bases and Service Catalogs.
* Writing technical concepts for a non-technical audience.
* Running automated and manual tests in a software development environment.
* Documenting and communicating test results.
You start your day by checking out the list of tickets for all for documents that have to be created. As you work on a high priority document, you think about where the document fits in the Knowledge Base you created. You might also discover a new addition to the Enterprise Taxonomy that you keep and may decide to update what you've learned so that people can easily find the document in the Document Structure you've created.
You realize that you need some questions answered so you IM and ask the developer for a few minutes of their time. The developer is busy, so you prep your questions carefully, but still, you find that she's moving quickly. Undeterred, because you're great at getting clarification, you skillfully ask a few key questions and get the answers you need to continue.
Once you have your answer, you send the document out for review. Later in the day, the account manager pings you in the chat room. They need you to run a quick smoke test prior to a UAT push. You drop what you're doing, find the smoke test procedures in the wiki, and start testing, reporting your results both in the ticket and to the chat room.
