Union Settlement Association, established in 1895, is one of the largest social service agencies in East Harlem. The agency provides childcare, after-school programs, youth development, college preparation, adult education (including ESL and GED), programs for the elderly, mental health services, and more. Position: Peer Educator
Department: Mental Health Services
Reports to: HIV Program Coordinator
Hours: Part-Time (14 hours per week)

Position Summary:
Promote healthy living, treatment adherence, risk reduction, and health education to peers living with HIV/AIDS in the East Harlem community.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct educational workshops for peers living in the community with HIV/AIDS.
• Conduct outreach in the community to peers living with HIV/AIDS.
• Record case findings regarding peers with HIV/AIDS.
• Provide interpretation and translation services when needed.
• Assist peers with treatment adherence, and provide support and follow-up.
• Co-lead non-clinical support groups for peers living with HIV/AIDS.
• Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
• At minimum, High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a must.
• Individual living with HIV/AIDS.
• Knowledge of how HIV affects individuals’ daily lives.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
