Harvey Chicago FT Chemist job, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

Performs duties to develop analytical capability and manage testing and safety procedures in an industrial test center equipped for laboratory analysis, research and development as well as pilot scale operation which runs various feasibility studies related to turning a liquid feed into a dry solid.

Under general direction of VP Technology:


♦ Writes operating procedures and recommends new procedures and test methods.

♦ Determines and performs analytical methods for quantitative analysis of samples using a variety of techniques and instruments.

♦ Selects and installs equipment and may design apparatus for specialized experiments.

♦ Makes appropriate entries into instrument logs, control charts, calibration records, databases, etc.

♦ Maintains chemical inventories, keeps records of supplies, materials and equipment, prepares requisitions as needed.

♦ Disposes chemicals according to guidelines.

♦ Performs routine and analytical work to prepare reagents, solutions, equipment and materials used in experiments.

♦ Performs laboratory tests on samples using specified methodology; monitors and analyzes processes.

♦ Applies knowledge of chemistry and scientific laboratory procedures and techniques in performing a broad range of duties related to the day-to-day operations of chemistry laboratories.

♦ Operates, maintains and calibrates laboratory equipment.

♦ Develops chemical hygiene/safety plans in accordance with OSHA, EPA and other applicable guidelines/regulations.

♦ Provides training and/or technical guidance to less experienced technicians.

Requirements:


♦ Bachelor of Science in Chemistry

♦ 5+ years experience with analytical chemistry laboratory equipment and procedures.

♦ Ability to work independently with a consistent exercise of discretion and sound judgment.

♦ Ability to occasionally work weekends or odd hours as required by specific projects.

♦ Willingness to work in close proximity to potentially harmful chemicals and equipment.

♦ Able to perform physical duties such as, but not limited to, lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, climbing and walking.
