Chicago writing job, working from home, part-time interns

Pipeline Publishing (www.pipelinepub.com) is looking for a few dedicated assistants to work with the editorial department of our monthly telecommunications magazine, Pipeline.

The publication is dedicated to the telecommunications OSS/BSS space, and while the ideal candidate will be tech savvy and willing to learn, extensive experience in the subfield is not a "must". We're more interested in energetic, detail-oriented self-starters with writing talent than we are with tech experts who lack those attributes. This job is ideal for students or others looking to break into the publishing or tech/telecom world.

Our interns are expected to work in areas that include, but are not limited to:

Copyediting/Fact-checking: The proofing of internal and external contributions for content and style, and basic research for verification of claims made within articles.

Outreach: Performing legwork to secure contributions, quotes, and other input for our monthly publication, as well as research designed to find new areas of growth for our readership.

Publication/Production: We're looking for interns with an eye for style who can aid in the selection of cover images, makes decisions about layout and design, and otherwise serve as a bridge between our editorial and production departments.

Editorial assistants should be prepared to tackle projects from each area, as well other projects that may emerge, on an as-needed basis.

In addition, all editorial assistants may be given the opportunity to write for the publication, beginning with contributions to our news service and culminating in bylined features.

These positions should be considered part-time internships. We work almost entirely remotely, and would expect you to, as well. There's no need to come into an office, so experience working from home would be a positive attribute. We will have weekly or biweekly editorial meetings, so some daytime availability is a must. Otherwise, you'll be expected to pursue assignments with a great deal of independence.

Current students are welcome to apply, though the position could easily extend into the next academic semester, so continued daytime flexibility in the Fall would be a plus.

If you're interested, please send a resume and cover letter to editor@pipelinepub.com. More information on the publication can be found at www.pipelinepub.com.

All resumes must be received by June 30, 2011.
